Anjum Shaikh is amongst the 15 finalists of the Women Exemplar Award 2020 of the CII foundation. She works on the issues of women and sanitation in an area of 2.5 lakh population in Mumbai. The formation of local vigilance committees to monitor community sanitation with heavy involvement of women and building capacities of members of these committees to be impactful is core to Anjum’s work. Anjum challenged many gender norms in her personal and collective life. Having divorced her abusive husband and demonstrating courage to stand against any abuses, harassment, violence against women in her communities she is now a role model and support to many women and girls in her communities.
