Resilient Societies

Uncommon Ground - Coexistence between a Strong Society and a Strong State

Uncommon Ground is the name of a book and television series hosted by Rohini Nilekani which spoke to how a balance between samaaj, sarkaar, and bazaar could only be achieved through the process of dialogue and exchange. The aim of this session is to engage in dialogue and work towards a common ground about the roles of the society and the State. The issues to be explored include 1) How can the two co-exist? 2) What drives an imbalance of power from time to time 3) Why is it that at times there is a tension between samaaj and sarkaar, and are there ways to think of the two as complementary in the context of citizen welfare?
