Gender

The changing face of gender identity and perceptions in India

How has the definition of gender changed over the last 75 years and how can we create a more inclusive world for today’s youth?

Over the last few decades, the definition of gender has progressed from binary to inclusion of other genders. The Supreme Court ruling in 2014 to recognize Transgender people as the third gender, and the introduction of multiple gender identity options as part of the Tinder App is testimony to changing times. However, gender minorities continue to face challenges in being accepted, while also facing discrimination in access to opportunities. This panel will seek to understand how far we’ve come, what’s changing,  and how far we have yet to go.
