Equitable Cities

Empowering Voices on the Ground

For policy frameworks to be inclusive, equitable and incisive we need greater participation. Currently, the level of civic participation in policy making processes, especially from the vulnerable classes is below desired levels. This lack of participation often leads to inequity in resource allocation, restricting access to infrastructure and basic services thereby making cities non-inclusive. This panel will discuss some of the long-standing issues with urban governance that especially affect the vulnerable classes, the impact of lack of representation and voices from marginalized communities in policy making and ways in which the participation should be institutionalised.
